Students Get Acquainted With Their New Schools
The recent graduates of Wantagh’s three elementary schools are coming together for the first time this year as sixth graders at Wantagh Middle School. Making way for them are the recently departed eighth graders, who are starting the final leg of their educational journey at the adjacent Wantagh High School.
The middle school hosted sixth grade orientation on Aug. 26. The incoming students received tours of the building from seventh and eighth grade student ambassadors. Every student received a gold folder filled with information including his or her course schedule, a building map, locker number and combination, bell schedule, student handbook, welcome letter and information about the PTSA.
Principal Anthony Ciuffo and Assistant Principal Dr. Stephanie Scolieri met with parents on the front lawn while students went on their tours, discussing clubs, sports, student support services and opportunities for parental involvement. Orientation wrapped up with some games in the courtyard.
On Aug. 27, ninth graders familiarized themselves with the building that will be their final stop in Wantagh schools. Students in the Wantagh High School Class of 2025 were split up into groups according to guidance counselor and rotated through different stations. They met with building administration in the auditorium, attended a club fair in one cafeteria and heard from peer mentors in another cafeteria. Orientation also included guided tours of the building.
