Wantagh’s Geography Whiz Kids

Each year, Wantagh Middle School students compete in the highly competitive, school-level National Geography Bee, with the winner advancing to the state level bee. The competition was canceled this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but social studies supervisor Dr. Christopher Widman explained that the middle school decided to take a different approach.

Students were tested on their knowledge of U.S cities and states, historic places, continents and U.S and world geography. Instead of having an overall winner, a winner from each class was recognized. Congratulations to the following Geography Bee winners from grades 6-8:

  • Grade 6: Matthew Como, Lauren Furer, Peyton Garrett, Peter Libranti, Kaitlyn Moran, Camryn Naus, Elena Radoslovich, Skyanna Rothhaupt and Keira Smith.
  • Grade 7: Sofia Cocchiola, Meghan Cox, Ryan Le Porin, Lana Lee, Lilianna Nicoletti, Brendan O’Callaghan, Charlotte Saxton and William Sigler.
  • Grade 8: Gabriel Avitabile, Emma Burns, Evelyn Caputo, Brianna Henriques, Daniel Jackson, Christopher Pickford, Colin Winges and Jamielynn Korotki.
