Students Tackle Grit ‘N Wit Course with Smarts, Strength, and Smiles

The 8th graders at Wantagh Middle School had a fun-filled field day where they gathered in the high school north gym to take final pictures together, sign yearbooks, and have a delicious lunch the day before the end of the middle school years.
For the second year in a row, students had the opportunity to put their brains and teamwork to the test during an unforgettable experience with Grit ‘N Wit, a Connecticut-based obstacle course company that blends mental challenges with physical activity. The unique course is designed to get students thinking critically while moving their bodies and collaborating with others—and the result is pure fun.
Throughout the course, students encountered puzzles that required logic, memory, and creative thinking, all while navigating climbing walls, balance beams, and agility tests. Every obstacle demanded a combination of focus, perseverance, and group effort. Whether solving a riddle or helping a teammate over a wall, students were fully engaged and cheering each other on.
“Go back and help your teammate!,” was often heard by the energetic DJ which was one of the purposes of the course. Throughout the field, students were grooving to the sounds of the latest hits before moving on to the next obstacle.
What made the day special was how it brought together physical fitness and problem-solving in a way that kept everyone motivated. Students laughed, strategized, and encouraged one another, proving that learning can be exciting and rewarding outside the traditional classroom setting.
By the end of the course, students not only felt a sense of accomplishment but also learned valuable lessons about resilience, communication, and the power of teamwork.
